closed on mondays

Let me tell you about this tricycle driver.

After taking about a hundred pictures of the Paoay Cathedral, we flag down a tricycle to go to Malacanang of the North. The driver thinks for a while, then says, "150 pesos round trip, back to this place."

We get in his lilliputian trike. All tricycles in the Ilocos region, by the way, are miniscule. Bunny Rabbit's right arm is now darker than the rest of him as it was always exposed to the sun, hanging outside the tricycle.

After driving for about half an hour, we reach the entrance of Malacanang of the North. It's Monday. It's closed. The tricycle driver knew this all along.

Never mind. I decide not to dismember him and say, "Just drive us to the eff-ing lake."

And there it was.

We loved Paoay Lake. It was the most peaceful body of water we'd ever seen.
