magic carpet ride

The more things change...

The more they stay the same.

The last time I was at Haji Lane was February 2010. The cab drivers had no idea where it was.

Nowadays they get more tourists, but the bohemian spirit is still in the air. In a mildly anal-retentive sort of way.

Oh, look. It's a new store.

I love Haji Lane and Arab Street. So much eye candy everywhere. And the food is pretty good, too.

Harissa, a traditional Yemeni dish made from wheat and lamb, drizzled with honey. S$10 + 7% GST

Take a piece of pita, spread some honey on it, top with harissa, pop into mouth. Heaven!

Turkish coffee made with finely powdered roast coffee beans, cardamons and sugar. S$5 +7% GST

I wonder when my next visit will be.

Do check out Café Le Caire at 39 Arab Street. It's a nice place to have a caffeine fix. The menu is fascinating, and the staff are friendly and very helpful.
